What a Guy
07.12.2007Also noteworthy were Pippa Nixon for her portrayal as a star-struck half drunk Lauren Miller and Joseph Morgan for his interpretation as the sly brutish Rod Campbell. Otherwise, the acting was marginal at best and the fact that some players were acting more than one principal role, made the story more confusing than it should have been. Set design was also disappointingly bare and the props were lifeless, pulling the audience out of the world of the play. However, the poor set design was more that compensated by sound designer, Simon McCorry. Music, catered to the story line by Rockhill, infused the play with a soulful urban feel while also integrating tribal beats. The music allows you to feel the story, without which the play would be incomplete.
Not even a deficiency in cast size or poor set design could make Joe Guy a marginal play. The power of the story overwhelms the audience and speaks to anyone who has ever felt the need to conform.
