After a year of dating it seems the lovely Ryan Reynolds has popped the question to Scarlett Johansson.

The diamond ring on Johansson's finger at the Costume Institute Gala at the Met in New York this week seems to confirm rumours circulating about the engagement.

Her representative also told People magazine: “They're both thrilled.”

Reynolds was previously engaged to Alanis Morissette but the two ended the relationship in February 2007 after four years together. At around the same time Johansson split with Josh Hartnett before getting together with Reynolds.

Reynolds, 31, is currently working on a romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock while 23-year-old Johansson is due to release her debut album later this month.
