Weatherproof Beauty
12.05.2008The concept of wearing foundation in the sun is always tricky. In hot weather we need something which will still give us a good coverage on shiny, blotchy skin. We also need something which won’t mix with sunscreen and lodge itself in pores, causing a breakout bonanza the next day. If at all possible, go without foundation as it will only make skin a nightmarish mess, but never ever leave sunscreen behind.
As for the rest of the maquillage… well that’s tough too. It’s not easy finding eye make-up which won’t slide all over your face by the midday sun. Clinique’s brand new Long Last Bronze collection is a real star. My essential piece of kit from the collection is Quick Eyes Cream Shadow in Starlit Pink. Alright, yes, I am one of those girls who has a childish fondness of pink, but this shade is the most perfect pink for coating eyelids. Not too flashy and not overly flirty, it is a pretty pick me up for eyes which need a lick of summery colour without being too obvious. The best thing about the cream shadows is they last through sweltering and sticky heat and they are also waterproof. So, when the unpredictable British weather changes and the heavens open you’re safe.
For a covering of colour on the lashes you can’t go wrong with YSL Waterproof Mascara. It protects lashes from the sun, water and chlorine whilst lengthening and thickening. For a summery style blondes should go for brown, rather than black mascara and the really bold can choose from a Mediterranean aquamarine shade.
Don’t forget to look after your lips in the sun, the fragile skin burns easily. MAC Tendertones are available from June and are little pots of lip balm which prettify lips with glossy colour and sport SPF 12.
