At first glance, everyone says that “oh it teaches non-violence, but ends with violence” but the difference why the character was fighting in the beginning is completely different for why he's fighting in the end.

At the beginning he's fighting because of anger and rage, confusion and self-loathing. In the end, he's fighting to protect himself, to defend himself and those he loves and I think those are the right reasons.

If you want to fight, then fine, but do it in an organised fashion. I've heard here kids grab video cameras and happy slapping and stuff like that. If you really feel the need to do something like that, don't pick on some innocent person on the street – go and fight someone who's trained.

TAC - You've got another film coming out shortly called Forever Strong which is about rugby. Do you feel you fit naturally into a sporting role?

SF - I've been an athlete all my life. Actually the first sport I played was soccer, what you'd call football, when I was four years old. I've always been very competitive in my nature and it's a major part of why I'm an actor. I went through a year and half once without booking a single job but the idea of quitting never crossed my mind because I was raised in a sports environment where there is no quit. And once again that ties in to the martial arts.

TAC - Where are you going with your roles?

SF - I want to do a variety. I want to be the best actor that I can be and the only way to do that is to do everything. My next couple of films are not sports orientated at all. One of them's a heavy heavy heavy drama and it's a post-Iraq Leaving Las Vegas type of situation shooting in Amsterdam. I'm also producing a suspense thriller, The Glass Eye. But I definitely want to come back to the action side of things – that's the fun stuff.

I really want to do comedy too. I've got a specific sense of comedy – some people get it, some people don't but once the right role comes along.
