SF - I haven't thought of it that way...but I love it. It's such a good sport and I'm a strong supporter and I would encourage anyone to take it up as a sport. You know 75% of the fighters today have college degrees, so the reason these guys are fighting is because they love what they do and I can understand that now that I've trained in it and as we said before it gets into your blood – you start to crave it.

You crave the pushing your body to the limits because you know deep down inside that you can go just a little further, just a little further. I remember before I started training, I would go and hike in Runyon Canyon and it would take me about 45 minutes and I would be exhausted. Now I will hit the gym for an hour and a half and drive there and I will run it all the way round, uphill and downhill and I will get to the top, turn around and run all the way back and I can do that in 30 minutes. I will be struggling the whole time, but I just know “let me see if I can make it to here” push, push, push “let me see if I can make it to my car”, “let me see if I can do the whole thing again”.

The thing is, I would never have learned what you can physically deal with. And the sport doesn't allow you to not. If you're not willing to give yourself up to it and push beyond you mental capacity, it's not the sport for you. I think it will also encourage you in life. So many people block themselves from their full potential; so many people don't allow themselves to expand beyond what they can and can't do and the fact of the matter is that we can do do much more than we believe that we can.

That's why I think it's a great sport because I've started learning so much more about myself having trained. Also, I think I've learnt more discipline and self-control and more self-awareness in everyday situations.

TAC - What's the message of the film?

The ultimate message is exactly what the core elements of what I think Mixed Martial Arts are – discipline and self-control.
