They started talking about music and he said that he was really worried about me, that I'd get famous and get into the “bad side” of the music industry. The record exec told him not to worry as very few people get into the business. But he listened to it on the way home, called my Uncle and said that his worst fears were confirmed!

I got a development deal then, but I was too young and green to do anything with it. Back then I was a straight singer/songwriter, which is really different from the stuff I do now.

TAC - You've obviously you've travelled all over and lived in some interesting parts of the world. Where do you like to be most in the world?

Yoav - That's tricky – I'm always happy to be somewhere different, but when I've been there for a while I start to want the opposite. I love Cape Town, that's always a different animal, but I also love California – it's got a great mix between being fast paced but at the same time relaxed.

TAC - You've had a Single of the week on itunes? How did that happen? What did that feel like?

Yoav - Well lots of cool things have happened. In a lot of countries, people have ripped the music off Myspace and played them on the radio, so I've achieved popularity that way. At iTunes, there were a few people there that were fans of the record, so that really helped. I've been in the business for nine years though, so I've definitely paid my dues.

TAC - You were personally invited by Tori Amos to be on her tour. Were you a big fan of hers before she invited you to tour with her? What's she like?

Yoav - I actually was but I was more into the old stuff which was one the formative influences for me. She's actually kind of like you'd expect. Neil Gaiman based a comic book character on her and she's actually like the comic character. She's very intense in a slightly kooky way. She's very focused on you when she's speaking to you and very charismatic but not in the slick way that politicians are.
