This Charming Author
01.05.2008But there are no jellyfish or rabbits skipping in Rachel’s Holiday. There is however drug addiction, denial, lies, the testing of relationships. This is one hell of a poignant story sandwiched between fluffy packaging. Although it’s wonderfully moving, well researched and gets the very important point across it’s also funny and silly and a fantastic read.
So back to the latest release which looks even fluffier but is in fact a lot darker than her previous novels. Similarly to “Sushi For Beginners” and “The Other Side of The Story” the story is told by three different characters. Stylist Lola, journalist Gracie and Gracie’s twin sister Marcie. The book opens with Lola suffering the after effect of being dumped by a famous Irish politician.
Keyes uses a Bridget Jones type diary tone for Lola which is a new style for Keyes but it works. The characters are loveable and as usual it’s a heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time and you will look silly chuckling to yourself if you read it on the train.
The twists are unexpected so I don’t want to say too much apart from, if you like Marian Keyes you’ll love This Charming Man and if you haven’t met Marian yet I think it’s high time you did.
