The Return of Reggae
25.07.2008We're all young and talking about a lot of London experiences. Their experiences might be different from mine but they understand where I'm coming form. Maybe more than an indie band from a village in the north might.
TAC: How important is London to your song writing?
Natty: London is very important. It's the capital of the world. From Puerto Rico to India, there's cultures from all over the world. The fact that London is the capital of the world and so many different cultures have seeped in means there's no other place like it. All of that interaction. Life moves so quickly. You can be young but feel old if you grew up in London. I was out playing with friends on the streets from the age of 10 seeing so much at a young age,
TAC: How important is politics to your song writing?
Natty: Again important They affect our lives. I'm not going to shy away from anything. If I see something, I'm going to write about it.
TAC: What do you think of the latest spate of knife crime. Do you think anything can be done about this?
Natty: I think there's a lot that can be done about it. Maybe the press is not particularity effective. Hence I write in my songs. Government does a lot talking at the youth and not a lot listening. Knife crime is madness. This is what happens when you forget about certain generation. Dumbing 'down with internet and Playstations. Kids don't play with toys any more. From that – go into the world smoking skunk at age of 10, a knife at 12 and a gun by the age of 14
TAC: Back to the music, how have the shows been so far?
Natty: Amazing. Live is where it all kicks off. If you haven't seen me live before, Hoxton Bar & Grill, 5th August – you should come down! The album came out of the live experience; the album got recorded off the back of me touring. The album was recorded live, all at once, which doesn't get done a lot these days.
