Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly aka Sam Duckworth is a one-man show, mixing acoustic guitar, laptop beats and a sense of political awareness into melodic and catchy tunes.

He was nominated for Best Solo Artist at the NME Awards last year and his new album, Searching for the Hows and Whys is out now. I spoke to Sam about the new album, London politics and collaboraing with Kate Nash and Billy Bragg.

Three's A Crowd - Hi Sam, how's it going?

Sam Duckworth – I'm good thanks, how're you?

TAC – Fine thanks. So....how bad's your eyesight - them's some thick glasses...

SD - *laughs* My left eye is actually 20/20. My right eye is really bad.

TAC – You could have an interesting career as a pirate with an eye patch...

SD - I thought about getting a monocle actually...

TAC – Yeah, then you should grow a twirly moustache and tie young maidens to train tracks in an evil 20s silent movie kind of way.

SD – Nah, I do that already. I get headaches all the time if I don't wear my glasses, so well there you go.

TAC - So, what's the name about?

SD - It's about getting away from singer/songwriter convention. It's about doing things that I want to do and isolating myself from standard mould and getting out there and doing things.

TAC – Your new album Searching for the Hows and Whys is out now. Do you see it as a “difficult second album”. How do you feel in comparison to your debut?

SD - If you'd asked me at the start of the campaign, I would have said no. But the second album is always going to be difficult, because everyone's going to be judging it based on the first one. And because I'm young I'm still doing my not exactly growing up but my musical development in public. I've always got ideas, I write all the time.
