Surfers of the world unite! Brazil’s got the best waves around…or is it Hawaii…or Costa Rica? Hmm, maybe not so united after all?

The truth of the matter is, everyone’s got their own opinion as to where you’ll catch the best barrels, peelers and freight trains (those are waves, apparently).

Well, everyone who’s anyone in the surfing world that is. But our current favourite and a hot tip whether you’re in the know or not is New Zealand – with a heli-surfing trip across both islands (and a total of 6000km of coastline) you can now go on the ultimate search for the perfect wave. Earth-bound surfers, eat your heart out.

So how does such an adventure actually work? Well the concept is brilliantly simple really with a few key ingredients; miles of coastline, local knowledge, private land access, ideal time of year and a Helicopter.

Each day you start the day with a protein-filled breakfast at your top class accommodation. Then you hop in the chopper and you’re off on the hunt. With contacts at all the spots, your pilot will swiftly transport you to the perfect beach for the morning.

Surf dies down in the afternoon? No problem. Just hop back in the helicopter and head off to the next spot where you can catch the perfect swell. Seven days of this and you’ll be ready to go pro. Certainly takes the phrase ‘surfing safari’ to a whole new level.

Just make sure you get there before all the gnarly waves are caught.
