Stylish Politics?
09.07.2008Celebrities, models, presenters and politicians all mingled at last night's launch of June Sarpong's new stylish political site.
It's not often you get the likes of Steve Jones, Caprice and Jimmy Choo hanging out at a party with Alastair Campbell.
But that's what happened at the Institute of Contemporary Arts when June Sarpong gathered all her political and celebrity friends to shout about Politicsandthecity.com.
The idea for the site, which is aimed at fashionable women who are interested in current affairs, came out of a meeting she had with NBC about possible TV projects.
She told us: "I said I wanted to do something that mixed politics and entertainment for a younger, female demographic. And the boss of NBC news said, (putting on an American accent) 'Are you doing this online?' I said no, and he said, 'You should!'"
And so she did. The site has no political leanings – June points this statement at Alastair Campbell – and gives you the run down of current affairs while delving into celebrity gossip and style news.
Last night the champagne flowed and a string quartet provided the backing music while the mixed crowd ate cupcakes and chatted style and politics
Later a DJ replaced the violins and we boogied the rest of the night away before heading off home with a goodie bag stuffed to the brim with – well – goodies including anti-wrinkle creams, face masks, a flake and current celeb hit drink vitaminwater.
