Show ‘em what your mamma gave you!
02.09.2008Any plus-size girl out there who is sick of being left out by the High Street giant retailers, needn't be outcast anymore! No more standing outside Topshop pouting and sulking.. there are shops out there that will turn you into a fashionista and have you ready to strut your curvy self up a catwalk!
Let's call this article your new bible!
Take notes of my tips and don't let the lack of choice be the reason that’s holding you back from looking like a fashion icon anymore!
There honestly is no excuse to be dressed in black tents.
If Gok, Trinny and Susannah have taught us anything it should be that embracing what our mammas gave us and showing off all of our curves with colourful and figure hugging clothes is all we should be worrying about!
Let's face it, we all have lumps and bumps somewhere...even size 8 models have something on their bodies that they don't like. So why is it though that all of the major retailers only seem to cater for them and not for us?
Well...to a certain extent that question is still valid (and some stores like Topshop and Miss Selfridge who still have a long way to go should start to think about why that is) but if i'm honest there are a few shops out there now that are doing plus-size fashion justice and are really stepping up their game and giving fashion retailers for the 'normal sized' consumers a run for their money!
HSS (high street stores) like Evans, Dorothy Perkins, New Look, Primark and Monsoon all cater for a range of sizes from size 6 up to around size 26/28 and even a 30 in Evans (and there's a good variety of choice clothes, underwear, shoes for wide fittings and swimwear available.)
Even Asdas clothing range from George have a great fashionable variety with sizes up to even a 26 sometimes!
Beware though, just because a shop may do the right sizes and range of fashionable clothes, you can still get the odd tent with bright vulgar flower or print patterns enough to make anyone look at you and feel they are going on a trip!!

The article shouldnt be aimed at JUSt plus-sized women, most of those fashion tips are general for most fashion rules...whatever size you are.
I actually struggle to find clothes to fit me coz im a small size 6 and most shops DONT stock for such a small size, most of the time I have to wear teens clothes in places like ETAM. Would be good if an article is written for women like me aswell.

New Look is good, but their plus-size section isnt that big and again like you said with evans, seems to be aimed for 35+
At the end of the day, high street still has a long way to go. chriddyeyed I dont know what size you are but being a size26/28 myself isnt easy to find good fashionable clothes. I'd have to disagree with you saying there is choice.

Evans fashion sense has improved alot but its still quite mumsy, i think they aim for their consumers to be around 35+ but you can still find some nice thiings and spice them up with belts and accessories.
Monsoon is expenisve but it is more of a designer brand than a high street brand..if that makes sense? its not like Gucci but the quality of the clothes and designs are much more higher standard than say new look. BUT im not putting new look down as that is one of my fave shops!!!
Postage and packaging is annoying but if you get more choice online I thihnk its worth paying.

By the way Im a size 26/28 and I usually feel limited to shopping at Evans. They do have a good selection but I would like more choice of shop. I will have a look at the places you suggested.
Thanks!!

Monsoon is expensive though! Whenever I go in there they are not well stocked but the clothes are lovely. The website is the best option as it seems to be better stocked. Have to pay P+P though.
