Scouting For Gossip

Scouting for Girls hit the big time in 2007 with hits: She's So Lovely (she's so loverly, she's so loverlee-eey) and Elvis isn't Dead (Elvis isn't dead, Elvis isn't dead...) and are currently touring the country.

Three's A Crowd caught up with Greg Churchouse from Scouting for Girls while they were on an impromptu break from the tour as Roy Stride, the other scouter for girls recovered from a bout of laryngitis.

The boys have been touring almost non stop so it's hardly a surprise that one day Roy woke up and just couldn't speak. But the boys are ready and raring to go and get back on the road. “I can't wait to get back,” Greg tells me. “There isn't a downside of getting to tour and we've been touring on and off since last February. There's a magical feeling every time I step on to the stage.”

With so many bands trying to make it, the music industry is a tough old cookie to break as Greg well knows: “Myself and Roy started the band when we were 14. We've been trying at it for ten odd years,” he tells me. So when did it click that they'd made it? “As soon as we got a record deal (in February 2007) we were in some euphoric state but it's been a crazy year. I still can't believe it.”

So what next – collaborations? World domination? “We're playing the Isle of Whyte on the same day as the Police and that's pretty magical,” says Greg. “We're taking it one step at a time – touring most of this year and then off to the festivals.”

So, has the sudden success gone to their heads and do we have a new bunch of bad boy musicians on our hands? “We're just three standard blokes. We like an ale or two.” Ooh controversial, I say. Greg laughs. “We're the least controversial band you ever meet. We just like playing music.” No TVs out of windows then? “Ooh no,” says Greg.

So what does get the Scouting for Girls boys excited? “We've just got a brand spanking new tour bus and it's like a hotel on wheels!” says Greg enthusiastically.
