The Other Boleyn Girl

Rivals,Enemies,Sisters

Mary and Anne are unique in that the qualities one character lacks the other possesses with abundance. They share a sisterly bond which is tried and tested throughout the film but remains intact and is stronger than ever towards the end. King Henry VIII is portrayed as a desirable young man, attractive not only to the sisters but to every lady of the royal court.

It is refreshing to see him in this way rather than the ageing, angry and overweight man that is so often seen. Henry’s immense power is played down and Eric Bana does a fantastic job showing him as an average man capable of feeling love, confusion and guilt.

The Other Boleyn Girl was filmed mainly on location at various castles and stately homes around England. The range of locations allowed the production team to bring alive the medieval feel of the film. Filmed in high definition, The Other Boleyn Girl has a rich, majestic quality to it. The scenes are shot superbly and a great deal of attention has gone into every one.

I would expect nothing less from director Justin Chadwick, who justifiability received great critical acclaim for his multiple award-winning adaptation of “Bleak House”.

The Other Boleyn Girl is a must see for everyone, whether you have read the book or not.
