Oscar Fears
10.01.2008Fears are widening that the biggest film event of the year, the Oscars, may be disrupted. which could cost the local economy a further $130 million.
Next Sunday's star-studded Golden Globe celebrations have already been cancelled because of strking hollywood scriptwriters.
Fearing that the ceremony would become a travesty due to many stars staying away in sympathy and others being forced to come face to face with rowdy picket lines the organisers decided to cancel the event.
Instead of the glitzy ceremony organisers will announce the winners at an hour-long press conference at the Beverly Hills Hilton.
“We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favourite stars celebrating 2007’s outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television,” said Jorge Camara, President of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
“We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year’s Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled.”
Whether there will be any red carpet or camera crew other than NBC news is as yet still undecided.
George Clooney had been credited with inspiring an actors' boycott of the awards ceremonies.
