No Damp Squid
30.11.2006A friend of mine introduced me to this intimate neighbourhood café and it really is a little gem in West Hampstead. I now have extensive knowledge of every dish on their lunch and evening menu as I have whiled away a great deal of my time there.
Some of my lunchtime favourites are scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and cream cheese with toast, sweet potato pancakes with sour cream and chive and don’t forget the delicious homemade corn bread (excellent with poached eggs and crispy bacon).
In the evening the ambience is perfect for a romantic soiree. The menu is limited but each dish is well crafted and competently executed, such as Pollock (which was perfectly cooked) with chorizo lentils-delicious! The staff are usually wonderfully friendly but take a magazine with you though as the service can be slow. The atmosphere at brunch/ lunchtime is buzzing and energetic but don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a table as the Wet Fish word is spreading.

I have to agree, Wet Fish has an awesome atmosphere, I guess the only problem with it is that its always packed and they cram in the tables, so you are literally listening into someone elses conversation...
