McBoring

As a big fan of old McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey) in Grey’s Anatomy I was always going to be drawn to any romcom with him in the lead but this strange twist on My Best Friend’s Wedding bored me when it should have had me giggling and swooning.

Dempsey plays sexy, successful ladies man Tom whose best friend Hannah is the one person he can really count on. But when Hannah goes away to Scotland for business Tom realizes he didn’t know what he had till it was gone and decides he wants to marry her.

His world is of course shattered when Hannah finds a wealthy Scotsman to marry after a few weeks in Bonnie Scotland (shallow anyone?) Tom has to settle for role of Maid of Honour. Bridesmaid Tom vows to stop the wedding and heads of to Scotland to win Hannah’s affections.

It’s a cute, if a little clichéd, premise which could have worked quite nicely but the jokes are all too obvious revolving around haggis and kilts and every Scottish gag you can thing of.

The characters are all a bit blah and it's no My Best Friends Wedding by a long shot.

Made of Honor a better romance flick than Fool’s Gold but I'm still waiting for a good romantic comedy this year. I’d suggest sticking to Grey’s Anatomy for your Dempsey fix.
