Kiss Proof
11.02.2008If you’re going on a date this Valentine’s Day then you are no doubt expecting to be doing a whole lot of pouting, and fingers crossed some kissing too.
Seductive reds and ferociously flirtatious pinks are the colours of choice for kissable lips on the day of love, but vibrant shades are not always easy to wear.
Stained teeth and smudged lipstick has never been a good look for hot dates. Besides, nobody enjoys the awkward moment when you kiss your crush hello only to realise his cheek has been decorated with the shape of your pucker.
You could do with a lip colour that will last through the raunchy rendezvous without caking, drying or flaking. Joy Scott puts 3 long lasting lip colours to the date test.
Date One – The Cinema
Dior’s Diorific in Dolce Vita Red (£17.50) is the most glamorous colour to have ever graced my mouth. A neo-1940s pillar-box red that dramatically offsets my blond hair, it’s a fantastic a first date lipstick. Suggesting ‘don’t touch me’ but asking ‘please do’ it’s the ultimate shade of sex appeal. As I reach for the golden tube and steadily smear the luscious red over my lips, it feels slightly drying but I’m willing to give it a chance. Heading towards the dark confines of the cinema screen I realise this will be a bigger test then I had realised. Not because I’m expecting to be kissing my way through the flick on the back row, sadly I’m just not that retro, but there’s no chance of checking my reflection. I spend the next 2 hours scoffing pick-a-mix, crossing my fingers that I don’t have bright red lippy streaked down my chin. As the credits roll I make a dash for the nearest mirror. Oh dear, my smacker look dry and dull, with flecks of crimson sticking to lip edges and creases. I speedily apply another coat and shamefully find my date.
The Verdict: Can’t beat Diorific’s initial punch of colour, but where did it go? 3/5
Date Two – The Dinner
Clinique’s Longlast lipstick in Beach Coral (£12.00) feels so moisturising and luscious that I can’t image how it could possibly stop from sliding away.
