Frankly My Darius...
08.04.2008If anyone deserves the title of the comeback kid it has got to be Darius Danesh.
He was, officially, the biggest laughing stock in England when he auditioned for Pop Stars with his horrendous Britney Spears number. He came back and was in the final of X Factor, released several top ten hits including a self-penned number one and is dating stunning model and actress Natasha Henstridge.
And now Darius has landed the role of one of the most iconic lead men in cinema history by playing Rhett Butler in the Trevor Nunn’s West End version of Gone with the Wind. You've got to give him respect for that.
But he's not the only one with huge shoes to fill. Playing opposite him as the infamous Scarlett O'Hara is the relatively unknown Jill Paice. The role of Scarlett O'Hara in the film is played by Vivien Lee who fought tooth and nail to win it and eventually won her an Oscar.
It seems nowadays you can't have an opening night without expectations running high and perhaps these two have even less of a nerve-wracking time than those who have won the roles through reality TV with a host of shark-like critics waiting to shout out: How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? You audition the normal way.
Much to the critics distress so far the winners have proven their worth and we expect that Darius and Jill will do the same.
For those who don't know the story Gone with the Wind is set in 1860’s Atlanta, Georgia. Seventeen-year-old Scarlett O’Hara, the eldest of three daughters lives a life of ease and comfort on their father’s plantation until the onset of the Civil War threatens this idyllic existence. Scarlett’s incredible journey through both the war and the peace is mirrored in her turbulent relationship with Rhett Butler, whose actions invariably defy prediction.
Their story spans ten years and mingles romantic joy with tragic grief, as the life these people once knew disappears, and we are asked if what has ‘gone with the wind’ is for better or worse.
