Having been one of the hits of the summer, Transformers looks set to repeat its success on DVD this Christmas. As well as dazzling with its CGI effects and adrenaline pumping action, Transformers also launched 21-year old actress Megan Fox on an unsuspecting world – much to the pleasure of most of the men in the unsuspecting world. Three's A Crowd caught up the young star back in the summer...

What was your first reaction when you heard about the movie?

My first thought was, ‘how are they going to make this film?’ when it’s all about robots, and it’s a very intricate process of transforming, from what I’d seen in the cartoons. So I was more curious about it than anything else because I didn’t really think I had a chance of being involved. But over the course of a month I continued to audition and when I finally got the role, I was incredibly excited.

So you were familiar with the cartoon series?

I remember seeing it back in the late 1980s but I couldn’t have named all of the Autobots and all of the Decepticons before – now I’m an expert!

What can you tell us about your character Mikaela?

She is a high school student who's accidentally sucked into this battle between these robots. She’s a little bit of a tomboy but she's in high school so she's still innocent as well. She starts off with a boyfriend, the typical jock, and she realises that's not who she wants to be with. She and Sam (Shia LaBeouf) are thrown into this battle together and through the course of the film she begins to develop a relationship with him.

Shia's the man of the moment. What was it like working with him?

I didn’t know him personally but I’d seen the show he did on Disney, Even Stevens, and I always thought he was so funny. It’s not often you see those shows and want to watch them as an adult. When I auditioned was the first time I actually met him. He’s been awesome to work with and get to know.

The CGI work must mean that you spent a lot of time acting to empty spaces.
