Festival Round Up

Field of Dreams

26.06.2008

Live music is more popular than ever these days. I had a look at all the festivals that are coming up this summer and I actually worked it out: if you were really crazy, you could pretty much go to a festival every week until the end of the summer. Here's our brief guide to what's coming up this summer for all your music needs.

If you're into the more mainstream artists, then it looks like V Festival will provide all the pop nuggets you'll need this summer. Glastonbury seems to be lagging behind in the lineup stakes this year, tickets are still available. And Reading has pulled up it's socks this year providing more rock then you can shake a stick at.

Glastonbury - 27th - 29th June

The wettest and oldest of the three main festivals, Glastonbury is legendary. Sadly the same can't really be said for the line up this year. Jay Z raised some serious eyebrows when he was announced for the Pyramid stage this year. Still there are some good performers on the bill – Kings of Leon adding some southern rock flavour and The Gossip will inject some power disco pop which will be worth watching for Beth Ditto alone.

Unfortunately, there's a complete lack of exclusives this year. Most of the bands that you see on the bill you can see at one of the other big festivals. Amy Winehouse is down to perform as well but your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not she'll make an appearance. Add to this the threat of perpetual rain and unfortunately, I think it's one to miss this year.

V Festival - 16th and 17th August

V's been running since 1996 and has a reputation for being one of the most commercial festivals out there. The line up looks great this year though: the ever impressive Muse set to be headlining the V Stage, with the reliable Welsh rockers The Stereophonics and indie favourites The Verve holding up the flag for Britrock. If that doesn't float your boat, then there are some new talents this year which will sure to get you jumping – new comers One Republic, balladry from Newton Faulkner and Girls Aloud will add a touch of glamour to the proceedings.
