Comeback Heroes

02.01.2008

They’ve come so far. They’ve looked so high. And they’ve looked each day and night in the eye. They were still so young and, yes, they hoped for more.

But, just at the point it looked like they were indeed not invincible, Take That have returned and are possibly even bigger than they were. And no, that’s not a jibe at Gary. That would be far too pot / kettle anyway.

After 10 years of living off the money and doing other odds and sods, four of the boys – there was a fifth. What happened to him? – got back together, started playing again, Gary broke out some new songs and they’ve just had their second number one single – not to mention a number one album – as a four piece. Not only that, first single Patience won the Best Single Brit Award last month. Shine, with its Beatle-ish melody and thumping chorus, was probably one of the best pure pop tunes of 2007.

Can anything go wrong? Probably not. The boys embraked on another national tour at the end of last year and again wowed the crowds.

It was such a good year that even the speculation on whether Robbie would join them died down. Last year saw Take That, as they are now, obliterate Robbie on all levels. Who would have thought? What a comeback.

So, with a bagful of classics from the nineties and a growing number of fantastic songs for the naughties we can't wait to see what the boys will do in 2008.
